Our favorite bustle for formal gowns is the french bustle. Formal gown usually require 1 - 3 bustle points.

waist band is taken up at the center under the belt loop. If needed, darts are taken up on either side under the waist band centered with the pockets. If a significant amount is taken up, the outer edge of the pocket will be reset.

take up shoulder with attached sleeves or design element requires resetting the sleeve within the new armhole circumference. 

Waist can only be taken up 1 - 2 sizes, typically no more than 2-3” 

Pants can be let out typically 1 - 1.5” depending on seam allowance availability. 

Pants can be taken up through the hips typically 1 - 1.5” total. 

Pants can be let out through the hips typically .5-1” total depending on seam allowance available.

Button holes are not physically cut into the jacket. The buttons are only top stitched on the jacket. These types of sleeves can be hemmed. Please note, often button hole stitching has to be removed. We do not recreate factory button hole stitching. 

Not sure if your coat has working button holes? Can you physically unbutton the buttons and see an actual hole on the side with the button hole stitching? This is a working button hole. These sleeves can be turned under about .5-.75” and hand stitched. We can not hem more than that amount due to the jacket being physically cut. The only exception is if the sleeve is hemmed above all of the button holes.

take up side front two seams. Does not include taking up pocket.

Take up side front two seams, includes moving pocket to accommodate amount taken up. 

Take up side inbetween existing seams to create a new side seam. This is a great option instead of resetting the front pocket. 

Take up shoulder with attached sleeves requires resetting the sleeve within the new armhole circumference and readjusting all of the shoulder supporting elements.
